Africa will host the globally renowned WINGSForum in 2020. This announcement was made at the Mexico City WINGSForum held in February 2017,including the fact that the African Philanthropy Network (APN) will be the co-host.
The WINGSForum 2020 will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together a globally diverse group of philanthropy practitioners, support organizations and leaders to share knowledge, network with each other, and advance effective philanthropy worldwide.
“The WINGSForum, held every three years, is a premier event in global philanthropy that attracts the top leaders in the sector to explore critical challenges and opportunities. “Hosting it in Africa gives us an opportunity to not only showcase our work but also look at home grown solutions to philanthropy challenges,” said APN Chairperson Dr. Bhekinkosi Moyo.
“We are looking forward to showing the global philanthropy community our hospitality as well as inspire new ways of thinking,” he added.
The WINGSForum 2017 was attended by 167 organisations from 41 countries with representations from a diverse range of organisations including community foundations, educational institutions, grant-makers and public foundations.
The Forum was themed ‘Critical Philanthropy: Address Complexity, Challenging Ourselves’. WINGSForum 2017 was an opportunity for the global forum of philanthropy to facilitate discussions around innovative ways to use philanthropy to mobilise civil society to “harness the potential of philanthropy, in all its diversity, for a more inclusive, equitable world”. Inviting the Philanthropic community to challenge traditional practices of philanthropy but create a space where we work together to impact the fight for change and if social justice philanthropy will impact the social justice space.
